Why should I choose dental crowns?

If your teeth are suffering from severe damage and decay, you can protect and restore them with dental crowns. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped “caps” that are placed over a damaged tooth in order to restore its functionality. They can also be used to cover a tooth that has been treated with root canal therapy, or to complete a dental implant procedure. Because they are made of durable ceramic, dental crowns are a versatile solution that can be used to treat a wide range of restorative and cosmetic dental issues.

The Dental Crown Treatment Process

Preparing The Tooth

Your Littleton dentist will begin by numbing your mouth in preparation for treatment. We will then use the dental drill to remove decayed or broken tooth structure, and precisely shape your tooth to create a stable platform for your new crown.

Imaging & Temporary Crown Placement

Using dental putty or a 3D scanner, we will create impressions of your teeth, which will be used to build your custom dental crown. We’ll also capture some additional images of your teeth to ensure that your new crown matches the shade of your natural smile perfectly. Your impressions will be sent to a dental lab where your crown will be crafted out of durable materials. Your dentist will attach a temporary crown for the few weeks it will take for your permanent crown to be made in order to protect your newly-prepared tooth.

Final Fit & Finish

Once we receive your permanent dental crown, you’ll return to our office for a final fitting. First, we’ll ensure that your new crown fits comfortably and make any final adjustments. When we’ve achieved the right fit, your dentist will permanently secure it in place with a powerful dental adhesive.
